Happy, Healthy Body – Natural Beauty Routine

Happy, Healthy Body - Natural Beauty Routine

Thankfully I started to drastically clean up and switch to a healthier eating plan a few years back, in which I paid very close attention to what I put into my body. Around the same time, I noticed that I naturally gravitated to wanting to clean up other areas of my life as well. For example, I did a complete overhaul of the cleaning and laundry products I used in my home, which I will talk about in a future happy, healthy kitchen blog. In addition, I started the challenging search for non toxic replacements for all my favorite

makeup, hair, nail, fragrance and skincare products. Trust me; this didn't happen overnight, but gradually and believe me when I say this - it was no small feat. Ask anyone who really knows me: I was a beauty product fan to put it mildly, as I have always been a girly girl who loves to primp. However, every little step I took to clean up different areas of my life felt empowering, as I began to truly love my body inside and out.

First of all, I didn't realize how many different products I had accumulated in my bathroom, medicine cabinet, and linen closets that I felt were a necessary part of my daily beauty routine. I had every hair product out there as I loved my big hair to last all day. I had overflowing caboodles of MAC and other makeup lines. I had makeup bags stuffed full of my favorite lip liners, lipsticks, lip glosses, etc. I daily spritzed myself with all the latest designer perfumes whenever I went out. I had tons of skincare, anti aging,

and moisturizing products and lotions I slathered on my face and body every day as well. I am sure you're getting the point when I mentioned earlier what a big challenge this was for me personally. (In fact, I would love to write a future blog on how I have been able to minimize and drastically cut back on a lot of my beauty products/routine and all the wonderful natural products I now use).

I remember it started when a friend of mine, who had been in remission for her breast cancer, informed me of the bad health effects that deodorant can have. I quickly went to Sephora to buy the expensive, natural deodorant she was using. Honestly, I wouldn't have been motivated to go down this long road at all, if it hadn't been for educating myself in depth on how our body functions and the toxic effect of my beauty products. Around the same time, I was diligently trying to cleanse and detox my body, blood, liver, kidneys, colon, and other organs from years of neglect. I couldn't unlearn what I now knew, and felt I had to do something to lessen the toxic chemicals I knowingly put on my skin, and therefore into my body.

For the first time, I started reading not only food labels but beauty product labels too. I learned from Dr. Schulze that our skin is an amazing organ. It "absorbs nutritional substances, converts sunlight to vitamin D, has its own immune system, and it can eliminate up to 10 pounds a day in gases, liquids, and semi-solids" in an attempt to detoxify our bodies. The skin will also absorb every chemical laden beauty product that I was slathering and spraying on it daily. Not to mention the harmful effect and work overload I was causing to my liver in its desperate attempt to keep me disease free as well.

My metamorphosis to natural, clean beauty products was understandable really, since I had taken the same leap to a clean whole food eating plan. I hope you choose to educate and empower yourself as well. It will enable you to make an informed decision as to what you put on your skin and therefore into your precious body.

You are worth all the time and effort. Here's to all of us treating our amazing bodies with the utmost love and respect.
